WORCESTER – Ralph DeMasi, the 82-year-old career criminal charged with murdering an armored car guard during a robbery 27 years ago in Worcester, was found not guilty Friday by a Worcester Superior Court jury.
Mr. DeMasi, of Salisbury, was charged with murder in the May 18, 1991, shooting death of Edward P. Morlock Sr., a guard for Mass. Transport Inc. of Marlboro, during a holdup at what was then the Shaw’s supermarket at 490 Lincoln St.
A 12-member jury, six men and six women, deliberated for less than three hours Friday before returning the not-guilty verdict.
Defense lawyer Paul R. Rudof said during his closing argument that the prosecution’s case against Mr. DeMasi hinged on the testimony of “a dishonest, dishonorable group of witnesses” who were not to be believed.
